Ma Cherie was built by Kingfisher Boats in Tauranga and launched in 1961. Owner/skipper John Baker had his eye on her for many years and finally bought her in 1981. With a deep draught (1.4m), and a lazy 6LW Gardner under the floor she cruises effortlessly at trolling speeds and specialises in overnight trips to White Island. John is a long time diver, and Ma Cherie carries a new, almost silent, Bauer compressor for those keen on exploring the extraordinary underwater environment of the active volcano.
John (also known as Tuna Baker), has a well-earned reputation for finding the fish for which the Bay is famous and enjoys the company of a steady stream of clients from all over the world who return year after year. |
