Sail, snorkel, explore the best cruising grounds in the South Pacific onboard the beautiful classic sailing yacht “Jocara” with a crew that combines many years of ocean cruising and chartering experience with Tongans who have grown-up in these islands and love to share their stunning home and culture with guests from afar.
We have been offering skippered/catered sailing adventures in Vava’u, Kingdom Tonga for 12 years, our extensive experience exploring the Vava’u island group has given us an intimate knowledge of every anchorage and snorkel spot in the group.
Over 100 species of colorful tropical fish, giant clams, manta rays, sea turtles, spinner dolphins, tropic birds and magnificent coral gardens, makeup some of the marine wilderness you will experience year-round in the crystal clear water often exceeding 30m visibility.
There are snorkeling opportunities in shallow water close to shore, where you can relax floating just above a fascinating aquatic wilderness, or we can take you in our dinghy to one of our many discoveries. We can arrange private scuba diving with our local “boutique” dive company just for you. Jocara carries dive tanks and has a compressor, but since it is easy and convenient to bring tanks out from Neiafu, there is no need to run a noisy compressor onboard.
We anchor near a different island each night and you can explore the island, snorkel or just relax. Some of the smaller, uninhabited islands are surrounded by white sand beaches, while others have dramatic limestone cliffs with sea level caves. Besides snorkeling, we can hike through lush tropical forests to vistas overlooking sheer cliffs where the surf crashes in the turquoise water, or we can explore a stretch of beach, poking into tidepools full of marine life.
“Jocara” is a beautiful and seaworthy centre-cockpit cutter-rigged sloop. At 52' on deck, Jocara is a solidly-built fibreglass yacht designed and constructed in New Zealand to Herreschoff hull lines. Jocara has sailed extensively in the South Pacific and Indian Oceans, and has seen her crew safely through hurricanes and tsunamis in over 30,000 miles of ocean cruising.
We serve delicious healthy food, combining local ingredients in a fusion of Tongan and Western cuisine. Simple and healthy with lots of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables suited to the tropical climate.
If you want to visit between mid-July and mid-October, you can charter Jocara for a liveaboard whale watching trip.
